The first table compares the 2009 team/driver combination with the equivalent 2010
team/driver – the same driver if possible, otherwise the 2009 driver is compared to
his 2010 replacement. This comparison is intended as a team comparison, but the first
(driver) table is also of some interest – but should be read with care.
Notes
Since 2009 Brawn-Mercedes have been renamed Mercedes-Benz, Williams have switched from
Toyota to Cosworth engines, & BMW Sauber have switched from BMW to Ferrari engines.

Notes: The Sakhir circuit has been lengthened by 887m since last year’s race.
The circuit changes may have some impact on speed trap readings.
Only two drivers (H lkenberg cf Nakajima & Barrichello cf Rosberg) improved
compared to 2009 – both Williams drivers, both now with Cosworth power.
The two Renault drivers are relatively high in the table, but the other
Renault-powered team (Red Bull) are right at the bottom [Vettel was the
slowest driver during the race, but it's likely that most drivers were
quickest at the end of the race when their fuel-loads were smallest, but
Vettel's engine was down on power at that time].
The second table compares the top speed achieved for each team (IE the top
speed of both drivers), and as such is a better comparison.

Somehow I managed to post the top speed data twice – and no one noticed!
[except Mark, thanks]
Q: How does the best lap of the whole weekend (3 practice sessions, 3 qualifying
periods and the race) compare to the best lap of the weekend in 2009?
Here are two tables – one compares driver with driver; easy enough if the same
driver remains in the same team. If not we compare the 2009 driver with the guy
who replaced him.
Season Notes
Since 2009 Brawn-Mercedes has become Mercedes-Benz, while Williams have switched
from Toyota to Cosworth engines, and BMW Sauber from BMW to Ferrari power. Toyota
have withdrawn from F1, but Lotus, Hispania (HRT) and Virgin are new teams.
‘S’ is the session when the best lap was achieved (P1/P2/P3/Q1/Q2/Q3/R)
‘Lps’ are the total laps in all sessions
‘Diff’ is the gain/loss in seconds
‘%Diff’ is the difference in time as a percentage of the 2008 time
Negative Diff/%Diff mean that the driver/team improved. Positive means they
got worse.
There can be several reasons for the variations seen.
Apologies if the tables wrap – save it and reformat if you are interested.

Notes
=====
The Sakhir track has been extended by 887m since last year’s race, so lap times have increased
by more than 20s.
Mark Webber managed the smallest increase in lap time compared to his time in 2009, while at
the bottom of the table Vitaly Petrov was the driver with the largest increase (in his case
compared to Nelson Piquet junior).
The second table takes the best lap time from both drivers in each team and compares it with
the equivalent team last season. Probably a better comparison.
