Fw: Arise Sir Jackie!

Yep, rumour has it that Jackie Stewart will finally get his Knighthood
this New Year.
About bloody time!

The Chocolate Monster @ Home

Mmmmm….this old chestnut arrives about this time every year, a bit like
the Silverstone ‘we are running out of tickets’ lark.  Well, I hope its
true, its trulli overdue but at least JYS did not have to wait as long as
Sir Stirling.  What do you reckon for Sir Nigel on 2020 and Sir Damon in
2030 ?

Planes, trains and racing cars…

The USA/gp

I’m in over my head here so please forgive…

The December issue of ‘Racer’, ‘Design Briefs’ has exceeded my level far
and beyond hope of grasping what the story really is…

Quote:

"As part of the continuing development of its BMW-powered  FW22,
Williams
tried a new front wing profile with a mild delta shape similar to that
used previously by Ferrari, but elected not to use it for the race."

Logic tells me that this was a mistake, and that the delta shape makes
sense.  The slight point should give some aerodynamic advantage over a
straight edge???  Of course if ground effects were still allowed this
design wouldn’t make a lick of sense…

Fw: JYS – Pop star !

Haven’t seen it, but as I understand it the video uses footage from
the Roman Polanski feature-length documentary on JYS at Monaco. I
doubt Jackie has any claim on the copyright ;-) .
Incidentally, if you’ve never seen this movie, it is a must. Easily
the best film on motorsport ever shot. The low budget shows in the
variable colour quality from using old film stock, but nobody has done
F1 more justice.
David Betts (dav…@motorsport.org.uk)

But not the sort of thing I’m likely to find at my local Blockbuster
store……
Anyway, its a bit before my time – personally I enjoyed the BBC2 documentary
a few years back on McLaren – surely its time for another !

Autosport review 2000…..oh dear…

I finally got around to reading the Autosport review of the year today, I
know its a bit late but due to the vagaries of the subscription service my
copies of F1 Racing, Motorsport and Racing Line all arrived within 2 days of
each other. Add to that the weekly offerings of Autosport and Motoring
News……well it takes a while to get through that lot.  Anyway, I digress.
To anybody who has £6.00 to burn may I suggest you either (a) Buy six copies
of the Big Issue or (b) 3 pints of Fosters and a bag of crisps because this
magazine is awfull.  It just looks like it was written months in advance
(‘cos it was) and then rushed out to the shops the minute Sepang was over
(and it was).  I can live with that but some of the mistakes are unreal.
Just two are as follows: On page 37 its says ‘Hakkinen from 4th on the grid
to finish first at Hockenheim’. Mmmm…I seem to remember Rubinho winning
that one but all credit must go to the guy who wrote on P138 in the Italian
GP review:’Six years after the death of Aryton Senna at Monza’

‘Aryton’  Who’s he then ? Monza ?.  I thought Ayrton died at Imola….

>From Autosport, this is unforgiveable….!

Fw: [PRESS] Arrows Press Release

I wonder how this ties in with the Prost stories – ie that Diniz Snr.
has resurrected the thought-to-be-defunct deal to buy into the team;
that Pedro will be team manager rather than a driver; and that
Mazzacane’s sponsorship deal will buy the second ride alongside Alesi.
David Betts (dav…@motorsport.org.uk)

Wow – Diniz as team manager and Gaston on the driving strength (I use the
words ‘driving’ and ‘strength’ in their loosest possible way).  That’ll
solve Alains problems…not      :-)

Diniz for 2001 Prost

Today Pedro Diniz has been confirmed as the other driver for Prost-Ferrari
in 2001. He has been chosen by Alain Prost, probably because Diniz’s father,
Albilio is a billionaire.

"The alliance of Prost Grand Prix with Pedro Diniz is excellent news for the
team," said Alain Prost. " It widens our commercial objectives and reflects
our strategy, which is to become truly international. In the short term,
these new funds will be aimed at increasing our budget. "

ISO: The Quick and The Dead

I remember once seeing a film about F1 racing in the early seventies, I
believe called "The Quick and the Dead".  It featured Francois Cevert quite
a bit, and the discussion of the new Robbie Williams video sparked a memory
of the film for me.  Does anyone know if that film is available in a U.S.
VHS version, and where?

Thanks in advance.

[ANNOUNCE] [FAQ] Charter for rec.autos.sport.f1.moderated

—–BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE—–

The charter is posted to the group every 14 days. If you do not wish
to retrieve it again, please killfile the subject line of this post.

CHARTER: rec.autos.sport.f1.moderated

Note: This Charter is intended to be read in conjunction with the
Moderation Policy which is appended.

(a)  Rationale

The goal of rec.autos.sport.f1.moderated (hereafter RASF1M) is
to provide a forum for the discussion of Formula One racing.  It
differs from the existing English language newsgroups for F1
(eg: rec.autos.sport.f1) in that it is moderated: the intention
of this is to retain the opportunities for discussing Formula
One currently found in other groups while preventing the spam,
commercial posts, abuse directed towards F1 personalities and
teams, participant abuse and postings completely unrelated to F1
racing which can also be found there.

The guiding principle for all moderators will be to interfere as
little as possible with the discussions, whilst maintaining
adherence to the Charter and Policy.

(b)  On- and off-charter postings

This group exists to provide opportunities for discussion about
Formula One. This can be assumed to cover topics such as races,
results, drivers, teams, circuits, trips to races, gossip,
rumours, sponsorship, reports of comments made by F1 personnel,
careers of former F1 drivers, news items, rules, safety and
     upcoming events involving F1 personnel.

It would be inappropriate and indeed impossible for a newsgroup
charter to give an exhaustive list of what is and isn’t
acceptable.  However, postings which have no connection at all
to Formula One are unlikely to qualify.  The final arbiter of
this will be the moderators, working within the guidelines of
     the Policy as appended.

Any submission which is relevant, civil and not in violation of
the moderation policy will be accepted for posting.

(c)  Moderation Policy

This is appended to the Charter and is divided into three
     sections:

     1.  Restrictions on Articles
     2.  Moderators’ Role
     3.  General Administration

Senna's car at Autosport International

I thought folks might be interested in this extract from the latest show
press release:

begin–>
AYRTON SENNA’S DEBUT VICTORY CAR AT AUTOSPORT SHOW

The legendary triple Formula One World Champion Ayrton Senna will be
remembered by motorsport enthusiasts the world over for many spectacular
races in his eleven year F1 career but one race in particular will stand out
in the minds of those who witnessed the driving of arguably the greatest
driver of all time.

In only his 16th F1 race, his first ever Grand Prix victory in atrociously
wet conditions at the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril was the turning
point in his career and the start of a winning streak that saw the young
Brazilian notch up a staggering 41 wins, 65 pole positions (still the
highest achieved by any F1 driver); 87 front row starts.

The car in which he began this remarkable, record-setting achievement, the
JPS Lotus 97T chassis number 2, will be on display at Autosport
International 2001, to be held at Birmingham’s NEC on January 11th-14th
2001. The world’s best-selling Formula 1 magazine, F1 Racing will feature
the car on its stand throughout the four-day show.

Featuring a carbon fibre chassis, the car weighs only 540kg and the 1500cc
turbocharged engine produces more than 1000 horsepower. The resultant power
to weight ratio is about 20 times that of a production road car.

The Brazilian ace drove the chassis, which was one of four manufactured for
the 1985 season, in Brazil, San Marino, Monaco, Canada and the USA as well
as Portugal. His victory in Portugal was the first for Team Lotus since the
death of its founder Colin Chapman, in 1982.

Thunderdrome and Bikesport can be obtained from the official show website at
