Jordan lose sponsor

Deutsche Poste has confirmed it is not extending its contract with
Jordan. Jordan spokesman says the team has known about this for a long
time and new sponsorship arrangements will be announced shortly.

Looks like Jordan could be tight on money next year, so may be a
candidate for the limited testing/extra practice on Friday deal.

Apparently, three teams have to sign up for the extra Friday running
to make it happen. So far, only Minardi has confirmed. Arrows would
presumably be another….. if the latest ‘rescue package’ comes to
anything. Sauber is said to be thinking about it.

Ferrari, Williams and McLaren will obviously opt to carry on testing
normally as they will be doing most of the tyre development work.
Ambitious manufacturer teams Renault, Toyota, Jaguar and BAR will
probably do the same.

More info on the Arrows deal

>From GdS:

German Grand Prix Racing, a company newly-formed with German and Arab
financing, has bought the Arrows team and is about to pay FIA the
300,000 euros required to take part in the 2003 Championship. German
Grand Prix Racing has been created by German financial company Asset
Trust Partners. The owner of Asset Trust Partners, Oliver Behring, who
also is the manager of German Grand Prix Racing, said that he has
bought the Arrows team for United Arab Emirates investors, who own 90%
of the enterprise. German Grand Prix Racing has acquired 51% of
Arrows, including the totality of the stock previously owned by
creditor Morgan Grenfell. Tom Walkinshaw, who remains the sporting
manager of the team, is left with a minority quote. Oliver Behring
will take care of the financial management of the team. As for the
drivers for next season, the two names currently in the picture are
those of Eddie irvine and Jos Verstappen (who is currently engaged in
a court battle with Tom Walkinshaw). The search is also on for a new
sponsor, after Orange left last year.

There ya go, Arrows’ll be there in 2003.

….seems like the Arab investors don’t trust Tom’s financial
management capabilities…..

The Kirch Gruppe creditors fight back

>From GdS:

The banks that took over the broadcast rights formelly owner by Kirch
Gruppe want to ensure that the Concorde Agreement is extended past
2007. Thomas Fischer, a member of the Deutsche Bank board of
directors, two representatives of Regional Bayerische Landsbank and
one representative each of JP Morgan and Lehman Brothers have been
elected to the SLEC council two days ago. Together with the Ecclestone
family, that owns the remaining slice of SLEC, they want to take all
possible steps to ensure that Formula 1 has a future. These steps will
involve fighting off the possibility that the major car manufacturers,
under the umbrella company GPWC, will set up a parallel championship
in 2008, after the Concorde Agreement expires. To achieve this goal,
the Kirch Group creditors will have to offer the manufacturers a
considerably larger share of Formula 1 profits than they are currently
getting.

Faster refuelling?

(From www.f1-live.com article "F1 to return to slicks?")
"Another innovation on the agenda is making pit radio communication
available to the public and increasing refuelling speed from 12 litres
a second to 18. These changes are added the ones already discussed at
meeting of the F1 commission on the 28th of October."

What could possibly be the reason for wanting faster refuelling? The
only effect I can see is that teams will be encouraged to do even more
stops, meaning less chance of overtaking or action on-track. Also,
there would be less room for tactics, since there would be little or
no reason to stay out longer in order to get a shorter stop.

I would like to see longer (thus fewer) pitstops in order to encourage
on-track action and tactical choices such as "push hard, wear tires
and make one extra stop – or drive smooth and save the tires".

I’d like to see the sports car regulations used, where work on the car
is not allowed while refuelling.

Martin Brundle Quotes closed, new site opened

The 2002 season marks the end of my stewardship of the Martin Brundle
Quotes Page ( http://members.tripod.com/~vidcad/martin_b.htm ). While
I don’t intend to update the site, it will remain online as an archive.

Callie Sullivan has been instrumental in the running of the site in
recent years. Obviously a glutton for punishment (!), she has started
her own site ( http://www.brundle.free-online.co.uk/ ), to continue the
tradition. I hope you will lend your support to Callie’s site and make
it equally as successful.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, commented or simply "just"
visited the original site. And obviously, thanks to Martin, for such an
enjoyable commentary.

New Russian test drivers for Minardi

Russian driver Sergei Zlobin is Minardi’s new test driver for 2003.
Zlobin is sponsored by Gazprom, the world’s biggest gas company, which
will enter into a one-year deal with Minardi. The team has not yet
announced who the drivers for thext season will be, but Giancarlo
Minardi said that hey are waiting to see how Zlobin performs in tests,
with a view of giving him a drive in the future.

Car make ownership

Not quite on the topic of Formula, but I was wondering just who owns/is
partners with who?

Like Ford has Jaguar and Fiat has Ferrari and Daimler Chrysler and Mercedes
are buddies and Renault has Nissan and Audi & VW have Porsche and Lotus and
Lamborgini, etc… just who has who as far as the others go?

Then what you guys think about Arrows missing all the last races? Are we
going to see someone to replace/revive them and Prost? Are we ever going to
see a full 24 car grid? (As an aside: has there ever been a 24 car grid?)

Well, just a few questions to ponder/anser.

James
