Wilson to Jaguar – Kiesa to Minardi

Just announced by Orange (to little surprise) ;)

Wilson in a Jag from Hockenheim "until end of season" (well-played
Justin!), Kiesa to Minardi (steady driver, he’s never really impressed
me too much though); Pizzonia to step down to Jag reserve driver
(interesting, Paul S. didn’t even want to do a straight swap for
him…)

rec.autos.sport.f1.moderated Posting Guidelines
===============================================

These guidelines have been put together to help you make sure that
your post stays within the charter and the spirit of the moderation
policy. Some of these guidelines are based on accepted "Netiquette"
for newsgroups, and as such are covered in more detail in RFC 1855
(see http://acwww.bloomu.edu/net.html for a full copy).

This is not a replacement for the charter and moderation policy. It
is a summary of both and also contains some points that do not appear
in either. Remember, posts must relate to Formula 1.

1. Please DO NOT post HTML. A lot of commonly used news readers give
you the option of posting in "plain text" or "rich text" &/or
"HTML". Please make sure you have your software set up for plain
text as HTML postings are unnecessarily large, and a lot of people
are not able to read them.

2. Please DO NOT post MIME/UUEncoded messages. Again, they take up
a lot of bandwidth, and some people are unable to handle them.

3. Please DO NOT post BINARIES. e.g. Pictures, sounds, programs etc.
These are large and may result in some servers refusing to carry
   the group.

4. Please post binaries to alt.binaries.pictures.vehicles or put
them on a web site and then POST A POINTER ONLY (include the
Newsgroup, Subject and Message-ID or the URL) in rasf1m.

5. Please write in English otherwise the moderators may not
necessarily be able to understand your post, and may have to
   reject it.

6. When responding to a post, please quote ONLY the points to which
you are replying and snip any irrelevant portions. Particularly
objectionable is quoting a large post in entirety to add a
   line or two of comment.

7. Please put your response *below* the text you are quoting.
This is standard Internet practice, and makes it easier for
people to follow what you are saying.

8. Please only use PGP signatures when necessary.

9. Don’t send mail or posts simply to point out errors in typing and
   spelling.

10. If someone posts in a newsgroup, they usually expect you to
reply via the newsgroup. Only reply via e-mail if necessary, or
if your post would breach the charter/moderation policy.

11. Don’t get involved in flame wars.  Flaming is against the
charter, so if incendiary material does appear, please leave it
to the moderators to deal with.  If you are offended by a post,
please contact the moderators with your concerns rather than add
    to the thread.

12. Use [SPOILER] tags. If posting within 48 hours of a race, and
your post contains information that may spoil the race for
someone who hasn’t watched it yet, please put [SPOILER] in the
subject, and make sure your subject doesn’t give away
    information about the race.

Some articles may be flagged as press statements [PRESS], and
these by their nature may well contain spoiler material
    (see 13).

13. If you are posting unexpurgated press releases, please use the
[PRESS] tag. Readers should expect press releases to contain
    spoiler information.

14. Don’t breach copyright. Be aware that copying material from
web sites and other sources may breach copyright. "Fair use"
applies on the Internet as in all other areas. As an intro
    see the page
    http://www.ifla.org/documents/infopol/copyright/fairuse.txt

15. Don’t spam the group. Please DO NOT announce your "new/improved"
web page every day. Putting the URL and an update notice in
your .sig is acceptable, as is notifying the group of substantial
    changes to your site.

16. Subject drift. If the thread has wandered to some subject which
has absolutely nothing to do with F1, you should set follow ups to a
more appropriate group or take the subject to email.

17. Please DO NOT complain that the group doesn’t has any interesting
threads. Instead, write interesting posts yourself. If you cannot
write an interesting post, ask interesting questions. That will
provide an opportunity for someone to reply and may generate a
    worthwhile thread.

This set of etiquette rules is based on those written by Rui
Salgueiro with the help of James Connors. It will be posted
automatically before each GP, and when there is a long pause
between GPs.

If you get tired of seeing it, killfile its Subject.

Driver Ratings #11 – Silverstone

As part of the Grand Prix report in the UK magazine Autosport, Mark Hughes
awards marks out of 10 for each driver. He rates them on the whole weekend,
not just for the race, and winning (or finishing) the race doesn’t always
garner a high mark.

These were the driver ratings for Magny-Cours – points out of 10:

10  Barrichello
 9  Montoya
8  Räikkönen, Trulli, Alonso, Button, da Matta
7  M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Coulthard, Fisichella, Pizzonia, Villeneuve
    Wilson, Panis
6  Heidfeld, Frentzen, Firman, Webber, Verstappen

Best of the season: Barrichello, Montoya (4), Button (4), Trulli (4), da Matta (4),
                    Pizzonia (5)

Worst of the season: Webber, Heidfeld (3), Verstappen (4)

F1 Purse Structure

Is anyone aware of the current race purse structure in F1? Do the organizers
post a purse for the finishing postions, fastest qualifier, and fastest race
lap. I know about the division of the television funds between the twenty
starters, but was curious if they were still paying other purse monies for
positions, etc.

Gary Anderson?!

All,

There was a breaking rumour on the RTE (Ireland) F1 broadcast as they
finished their qualifying program that Gary Anderson had just handed in his
notice (ie, at the end of qualifying).

Did anyone else pick up on this?

Jordan are going from worse than Minardi, down to Forti-Corse levels….

Traction Control (SPOILER content!)

So how difficult can it be for Ferrari to develop decent traction control?
It’s obviously costing them valuable points as we saw today at Hockenheim.
With a decent launch Rubens would have stayed in the race and Michael would
not have looked like he was going backwards compared to the two Renaults.

I’m a software engineer by profession and have to believe that they have a
fundamental problem other than software. Basically, software should be
really easy to change during testing, so it should be just a matter of
trying a couple of launches, observing what happens, tweaking your
algorithms and parameters, and trying again. The fact that they just are not
getting it leads me to believe that there are some problems elsewhere in
their mechanical or engine control systems that limit what the software is
able to do.

This isn’t Ferrari’s only reason for slipping in the championship lately,
but it certainly doesn’t help when you consistently lose two places or so by
the first turn.

What’s with JV. Has he forgotten how to finish a race? Second gear problems
near the end, just when he was set to finish 15th!!! I think the guy is so
discouraged that he is not even trying. Even before the race he conceded
that the car, or perhaps himself, is uncompetitive. Time to find a new ride
or leave.
