Sorry DC

At the end of last season I suggested that DC does not deserve to be in F1
anymore.  He did a splendid job in Australia and I therefore publicly say
"Sorry DC".  Hope you gather many point in the Redbull!

DC points and pay

Well DC became the highest scoring British driver today, despite his lack
of wins you cant say he hasnt been a consistant scorer.  And apparantly he
is not paid on a points basis, Brundle commented on the reports in the
british press which apprantly got it all wrong, hardly any surprises their
then.

Well done alonso

Well done to Alonso, I feel the better Renault driver took the win today,
he was clearly faster in Australia and showed Fisi how to drive this
weekend.  I think Alonso will be the faster of the two most of the year
and is definatly in with a shout of the WDC a damn good one.  Good see
Toyota finally get some points for their hard work and not a Ferrari in
sight, which was refreshing.
Good scrap between the Williams and Shumacher jr, seemed to be some good
racing at points during the race.
Another great result for Red Bull maybe not a bad move for DC after all
:)

Congrats Heidfeld

Congrats to Heidfeld on his podium. And BMW-Williams for giving him the
opportunity that MaClaren did not. He might have had some poor looking
performances last yeat , but you cannot deny that he is as capable as Kimi
was.

I had a frame-by-frame look at his Aus GP crash with Schumacher who has
beared the all of the blame to the point of being made to accept
responsibility at the GDPA. "Michael clearly defended once, then maybe tried
to defend again and that’s what put Nick on the grass."(planet-f1)

From which I conclude that Heidfeld has made a hash of it all. Despite the
ethics of moving more that once in the braking zone, my rose-tinted glasses
sees Heidfeld as reacting wildly to a small shimmy by Schumie. On the other
hand, that "maybe" bit – the GDPA accepts too readily to vilify(spel?)
Schumacher.

Here in South Africa, we have a situation where people seem to be afraid of
crossing bridges. So, they climb down onto the freeway, cross the busy
roads, and then climb up to the other side of the bridge. The thing is, they
usually seem to wait for you to come close before they cross. The thing to
do is to keep your speed and direction, and let them figure out their next
move.

Agreements between teams on testing

Hi everybody.
I’m trying to put order in my mind about agreements between teams on
testing.

Does anyone know for sure the hystory of them?

In the past teams agreed on these rules:

a) you can’t test on Gran Prix circuits, but Monza, IMola, Silverstone &
Barcelona
b) you can test only 48 days during the season
c) you must respect a testing ban in august
d) you must respect a testing ban after last grand prix of the season
e) you cannot test the week which is held a Grand Prix, and the Monday
after: you can only make a 50 km shakedown
….

These (and others) points were subscribed by everyone.

Then came the agreement between the nine teams, with

i) you cannot test on two or more different circuits the same day
ii) you can test only 10 (then 24, finally 30) days during the season
….

I know that agreements and rules in F1 often are kept secret, I wonder if
some guy had a better perspective than mine.
For exemple, I’m sure that a) and b) were previous than c) and perhaps e)

FIA presidents

Hi, I was editing the FIA entry on Wikipedia (at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%E9d%E9ration_Internationale_de_l%
27Automobile
but I am actually working on the Italian version) and I am left with an
incomplete list of FIA presidents that I would like to include in the
article. I’ve tried my best to look up sources on the Internet,
including FIA’s own site, but apparently to no avail.

These are the names I have, knowing for sure that there have been 10
presidents since 1904:

      * Etienne de Zuylen (1904-?)
      *  ?
      *  ?
      *  ?
      *  ?
      *  ?
      *  ?
      * Paul von Metternich (1975-1986)
      * Jean-Marie Balestre (1986-1993)
      * Max Mosley (from 1993)

Any help, direction or extra information is much appreciated.

[PRESS] JUAN PABLO MONTOYA UNABLE TO COMPETE IN 2005 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA UNABLE TO COMPETE IN 2005 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Woking, Great Britain, Wednesday 30th March 2005: Team McLaren
Mercedes confirm that Juan Pablo Montoya is unable to take part in the
2005 Bahrain Grand Prix this coming weekend, as a result of an injury
he sustained whilst playing tennis during the Easter weekend.

Juan Pablo was playing tennis with his personal trainer in Madrid,
Spain, on Saturday morning (26th March) when he slipped and fell,
sustaining a minor hairline fracture to his left scapula
(shoulderblade). Following a number of tests, scans and an examination
by one of McLaren’s medical consultants, the team has been advised
that Juan Pablo should rest to allow for the injury to heal. Further
scans will take place in two weeks time to verify the healing process,
but at this stage the team fully expects Juan Pablo to be able to
compete in the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola on 24th April 2005.

Team McLaren Mercedes’ nominated test driver for the Bahrain Grand
Prix, Pedro de la Rosa will race the MP4-20 in Juan Pablo’s place. The
team’s other test driver Alexander Wurz will pilot the third car
during Friday’s two practice sessions.

Pedro has undertaken 2168 kilometres of testing with the MP4-20 since
late January whilst Alex has been focusing on Michelin tyre
development with the MP4-19B. Subsequently after a discussion between
the team and Alex, it was decided that on this particular occasion
Pedro was better equipped to race at the Bahrain Grand Prix. However
following the Bahrain Grand Prix, Alex will commence his testing
programme with the MP4-20, and will be able to share the test driver
duties with Pedro at future races.

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA:
"I’m obviously disappointed not to be able to race this coming
weekend. However driving a Formula One car is hard work and it would
be impossible to do with my injury and whilst it’s difficult, we have
to follow the advice from the medical experts. I’m going to take it
easy for a few weeks and cheer for the team in front of the TV. I’m
already looking forward to getting back into action as soon as
possible. At least it’s early in the season and a lot can happen, so I
don’t think my championship challenge is over."

PEDRO DE LA ROSA:
"First of all I would like to wish Juan Pablo a speedy recovery. As
one of the test drivers for Team McLaren Mercedes this is really an
extension of my existing track side responsibilities. I’m looking
forward to the challenge of racing in Bahrain and will do my best. It
will be a new experience as I have not competed in Bahrain before. I
know the team and the car very well from our comprehensive testing
programme and hopefully we will be able to put in a strong
performance. I’m definitely going to enjoy this opportunity as much as
I can."

ALEXANDER WURZ:
"It goes without saying that I would have preferred to be the one
racing the MP4-20 at the Bahrain Grand Prix. However the team and I
agreed this was the best solution for this race and I am excited that
I will be able to drive the MP4-20 for the first time on Friday in
Bahrain. Like the rest of the team I also want to wish Juan Pablo all
the best."

RON DENNIS:
"It’s in situations like these that Pedro and Alex roles become even
more crucial within the team and I’m confident that both drivers will
put in strong performances during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend. We
will continue to monitor Juan Pablo’s progress over the coming weeks
and are aiming to get him back in the car as soon as possible."

NORBERT HAUG:
"Unfortunately Juan Pablo can’t race at Bahrain due to his shoulder
injury. I wish Juan Pablo a speedy recovery, so that he will be in a
position to compete in the next race at Imola again. I am convinced
that Pedro will do a competent job having covered more than 2000
Kilometres of testing with the MP4-20. He and Kimi will be efficiently
supported by Alex when he will drive the MP4-20 for the first time
during Friday’s free practices."

Re: McLaren sabre-rattling

I think this answers your questions.

 From Autosport.com:-

McLaren boss Ron Dennis has revealed that he is making plans for his
team to be ready to pull out of Formula 1 at the end of 2007 and make
the switch to the manufacturer-led breakaway championship, if
satisfactory commercial terms cannot be reached with Bernie Ecclestone.

In the wake of a presentation earlier this week from the manufacturers
planning their own series for 2008, Dennis made it clear on Friday that
there was no guarantee his outfit would carry on its involvement in F1 –
and he revealed that plans were being made to ensure it has the choice
to switch if that is deemed necessary.

“From 2008 we want to be in a position whereby we do not have to
participate in F1,” said Dennis, speaking at his McLaren Technology
Centre. “We are trying to get ourselves in a position where we have a
choice to withdraw from F1 if it is not commercially attractive to us.”

With Ferrari being the only team that has so far committed to F1, the
manufacturers have not let up in their plans for the breakaway series –
and are offering any teams committing to its new series the promise of
being treated as equals. One of the biggest gripes among teams at the
moment is of Ferrari’s perceived favouritism from both the FIA and
Ecclestone within F1.

Dennis hinted that the ‘equality’ factor would be an important
determinant in McLaren’s eventual decision. “We will not participate
in GP racing in 2008 unless there is a level playing field,” he said.

McLaren’s F1 CEO Martin Whitmarsh claimed, however, that although the
team could well be swayed by what was being offered by the
manufacturers, he doubted that the situation will eventually result in
two top level championships having to go head-to-head.

“From 2008 we want the guiding principles of the GPWC group to apply,”
he said. “We don’t believe there will be two series and we don’t
believe that Ferrari will be able to go it alone in a championship
racing against the GPWC teams.”
