All Swiss Channels are available on Hotbird, but crypted in Viaccess.
Smartcards are easy to get, almost for free. SF2 in german, TSI2 in
Italian and TSR2 in French.

The problem is, that RTL has the Free-TV monopol in Germany. So the
broadcast no other channels which show F1 exept Pay-TV (DF1). And that is
expencive. So if you don’t want to spend so much money just to get lots of
unusefull channels which you have to take too, you just have the opportunity
to watch RTL.

To be honest, I don’t know his name.  He does sports commentary for more
than just F1, so they bring in some "experts" for the races.  I can’t say
that they are always as informed as the British commentators, but at least
they have some enthusiasm (perhaps too much for Sauber), and there aren’t
the irritating Werbungen that seem to go forerver on RTL.

I have no problems with Marc Surer so…
And remember – anything is better than the RTL-F1 presentation.
But it`s a problem to get SF2 in Germany (Hamburg) – it`s not on Astra
or Eutelsat. Do you know how I might get it?

I was in an apartment, and my (rented) TV gave me the following Sporty
options: RTL, Canal+, Eurosport (in German). I didn’t get any signal worth
watching on any of them so I went out to the pubs along the front. The first
I came to was showing RTL and since it was minutes before the start I just
sat down! Later on I sent my other half along the front (she was bored
anyway) to see if anywhere was showing it in English. She said she found
another pub not showing RTL but it was still a foreign language, I assumed
it was Canal+. I don’t think Tenerife has the full Spanish bouquet of
channels as it were (without a whopping huge dish at least).

Tenerife is Spanish territory and TVE3 (I think, might be 2 since
the "1999 F1 TV list" says so) covers F1. Should have been available
in your hotel (if you were in a hotel).

Since almost anything has less adverts than RTL, it would have probably
been a better option. OTOH, I think RTL starts their transmission earlier
than other TV stations (RTP starts only right before the race and they
interrupt immediately to show an advert during the warm-up lap), so maybe
that explains why you found RTL first.

In hindsight, I’m glad that I didn’t actually miss anything because of those
ad breaks. The worst one, in my view, was when they cut away from the race
just as Irvine crossed the line! They didn’t even bother to stay with the
race to watch everyone come home. I couldn’t for the life of me remember who
was 5th and I wanted to see Hill come home in the points too. I didn’t
bother to stay watching for the wind-down back in the studio.

As for ITV’s coverage… I notice that Martin’s pit-walk is back in, but
"Murray Meets…" has disappeared. Perhaps no-one thinks they can top the
Bernie interview they did last time?
