>From GdS online:
German magazine "Auto, motor und Sport" reports that Alain Prost might
start a technical cooperation with Mclaren. The cooperation would
start from the year 2001. The reason for the technical deal would be
the problems Prost is having with current partner Peugeot.

I’ll beleave that when and if it happens.

Co-operate over what aspects? If it’s because of Peugeot it implies
sticking a MB lump in the Prost. Which McLaren are then going to tell
them how best to use? What would McLaren get out of that? {question
applied to group, not Fede specifically!!}

Cannot see any advantage for McLaren myself, unless its just a case of
Mercedes supplying customer engines (like Ferrari do for Sauber) but Norbert
Haug has always been dead against this idea…

That’s what I’ve been wondering too, but the article in GdS does not
give any more details and I have not seen the rumour reported anywhere
else. Perhaps some German rasf1/rasf1m posters could have a look at
the orignal article in Auto, Motor und Sport?

The article contains more or less speculation and nothing else. Most
used words are *might*, *could* or *maybe*. That the rumour has not
spread any further might be because Norbert Haug has denied it as
complete rubbish before the magazine went to print.
An interesting fact aside, Haug was chief editor of that magazine
before he moved to Mercedes.

Four Mercedes engines in a race means twice the mileage and two teams
means twice (well, ok, 1.something times, given that Prost’s small) the
development work. And guess which team will end up grumbling around
Lurcy-Levis on a wet Wednesday testing nine varieties of Nikasil cylinder
liner for reliability? Not McLaren, I’ll bet.
Autosport have rubbished it, so there must be some modicum of truth in it.

Come on, is this all about Coulthard being unable to lap Panis?
