Well, I’ve visited the McLaren HQ (much preferred the old BRM open
days at Bourne) and I’ve spent days hanging around in the pits at
freezing cold Silverstone test sessions when nothing much happens, so
I think I’ll give those a miss, thanks. I don’t have anywhere to put
any more model cars and, frankly, I think I’m getting a bit old for
driving a modern F1 car. Now, if somebody wants to let me drive a
    Maserati 250F…..

Cannot offer that, I’m afraid…but hopefully, I will be able to offer a
faily accurate C-type replica in the not too distant future :o )
Just been in touch with Martin Robey for the remaining engine parts, and
the bodywork should be there for me to collect early in the New Year…
finally, the project is picking up the pace again.

Not at the expense of the Le Mans car, I hope. Did you spot Peter
Hugo’s own replica in the paddock at Goodwood. I gave him a good
telling off for sneaking that in ;-) >.

There are, of course, plenty of replica F1 cars around on the historic
scene. A couple of BRMs P25s, a couple of Dino 256s, the Cameron
Millar built 250Fs, Robin Lodge’s wonderful Lancia D50 recreation.

Somebody built some Dino look-alikes from road car bits as well. The
Ferrari Replica Club always used to show one in their static display
at the Silverstone Historic Festival. Now that would stand out at
track days, in amongst all the Rexs, Evos, Caterhams and Elises.

Probably the nearest thing to F1 power to weight ratios on the road is
the DAX Rush Turbo’busa, which has 800 bhp per tonne…..I’ve bottled
out of driving it so far.

Drool, glassfiber or aluminium body? Am already looking forward to the
promised ride around Iddefjorden! :-) Will you use it to LeMans?

What amuses me is there’s more "real" 250F in the CM cars than in some
of the "real" ones these days — and the CM/ ones seem to be widely
accepted as "real" historics rather than replicas (then again, they’re
getting on in years!)  yet some people are sniffy about Robin Lodge’s
utterly, totally, gorgeous Lancia (which again has a fair degree
of originality and he’s honest enough to call a replica) – a car
that surely any enthusiast would want to see racing!

Blimey – I don’t think I’d even sit *near* one let alone in one ;)

Would you believe an aluminium nose section, with the mid section and
the tail being made from g/f? Bit of a saving in Euros…
I am going to put the engine together while being watched very carefully
by my Dad (he’s 83 on Friday this week), him no longer having the
strength to lift Jaguar engine blocks and cranks, nor wield long torque
    wrenches…
We reckon on two week-ends, once we have all the parts.
And yes, you *will* get an Iddefjortd drive, and it *will* be used for
the trip to La Sarthe. And no shortage on would-be co-pilots for that
    journeu’y, funnily enuff…

Current MotorSport has a track test of the most desirable 250F of all
    – Fangio’s 1957 Piccolo – at the scene of its finest victory, the real
Nurburgring. Haven’t read it yet. Saving it for when I’m really fed up

He gets invited to Goodwood. What else matters? Mind you, I think it
might be for sale. Time for a rasf1m whip-round?

I’ve passengered in one on the road around Harlow, although I did
decline a couple of laps of the Silverstone Gp circuit. DJ are
building me a somewhat milder version for next summer with a 130bhp
Kawasaki unit……so only something over 300 bhp per tonne. Bit
nervous of the paddle-change sequential and clutchless up-changes. No
    windscreen, either.
