Coulthard’s car had a slipping clutch.  We saw that during his
pit stop.  I don’t think there’s any evidence at all that it
was anything more than that.

It’s sad that the atmosphere in F1 is so poisonous that fans
immediately start looking for conspiracies like this.

I don’t doubt that the team wanted to get DC ahead and that he was
therefore anxious to make as good a start as possible. It seems
likely, however, that his clutch was dragging. Martin Brundle picked
up on this when he started creeping at one of the pitstops.
