Would it not be a good idea for Ferrari to keep Salo for next year, should
Irvine decide to leave ?

My understanding is, that its almost definate that Rubens will partner
Schuey at Ferrari in 2000. Salo would make a good team mate for Irv at
Jaguar !

Salo and Irvine in the Jaguar could be interesting but who whould be team
leader? EI will almost certainly belive he is for the job but will Salo be
willin gto play second fiddle? Mika is a very talented driver who should not
be overlooked in the equations.

Jackie Stewart has publicly advised Barrichello not to go to Ferrari.
His reasoning is, "Rubens is vulnerable because he is a sensitive
person and it is going to be very tough for him if he goes there."
(Autosport’s F1 news, August 12).
I think he’s right… Barrichello needs a drive where he can develop
his potential, not play second fiddle. He also needs a "caring"
environment (like Frentzen, who has blossomed since moving from
Williams to Jordan).
Autosport goes on to speculate that Stewart’s comments mean that he
would like to retain Barrichello’s services for next year, despite the
rumour that Salo is to partner Irvine there.

I don’t think Irvine would expect team leader status. It seems to me
to be a well-accepted fact that Ferrari (or whoever Michael Schumacher
is driving for) is the only team with that particular arrangement, at
least from the very beginning of the season.
In any case, after the way he has talked about the arrangements at
Ferrari, I don’t see how Irvine could ask for number one status in
another team. It would be hypocritical in the extreme.
Cheers,

If Irvine wins the championship his bargaining power and stock go way up. If I
were Eddie I’d wait a while before signing anything.

My guess is Herbert will call it a day.
Eddie will take over from him.
It’ll still hurt Ribens – Eddie really pasted him at Jordan when they were
there.

Salo would be a good choice. But apparently Rubens is coming to Ferrari is what
I have been hearing.
