Salo's View

Interview between RTL5 and Mika Salo is not a direct quote but you’ll get
the idea. Last line from Salo is a quotation.

RTL5: Do you think Friday practice should go?
MS: Yes. Just Saturday Practice and qualifying.
RTL5: But what about the fans?
MS: Pause… Who cares.

The fact that Mika doesn’t care about the fans confuses me. Is that a true
professional or someone "the public" should not support.

I pay $410 Australian for a four day Gold pass for a seat in the main stand
on pit straight (Fangio Stand) at the Melbourne Grand Prix.

I refuse to pay that amount of money if the F1s only show up on the weekend.

Ban private testing and use Thursday and Friday as free sessions at the
    Grand Prix’s for testing.

That way it’ll save money, give the teams. drivers and sponsors more
exposure and give us fans more of the cars.

If Salo did say those comments then I think the guy must have his head so
far up his arse that they’ll need to perform exploratory surgery to find it.

That can be interpreted 2 ways

    1 – your way

2 – that the fans don’t care about friday practice only Qualifying and
    the race.

So before we can make a judgement i think we’d need to have what he said
in proper context. Mabe you should quote everything said and even then
    that may not be enough.

So best we give him the benefit of the doubt, innocent until proven
guilty. Rather than hang an innocent man with insufficnet and conclusive
    evidence.

Not the first that would come to my mind,.

I think that´s what Salo meant, and I know he thinks Friday practise is
a waste of time and money also in the opinion of the fans.

3 – Salo is an old cynic with a wicked sense of humour; he knows that
the majority of decisions taken during his time in F1 has been made with
full disregard of what the fans care or don´t care about.

3 – Although racing is a form of entertainment, the drivers are risking
their life and limb, so pleasing fans is not, and should not, be foremost in
    their minds.
