Who will be on the grid

Does anyone have any reliable information on progress art US F1 or
Campos Meta?

We have not seen the cars and there are still driving slots to fill.

US F1 were hoping to have the car rolling about now.
I am sure Campos Meta had similar plans

Will we see them on the grid?

IS Stefan GP a credible alternative or just smoke and mirrors.

It’s clear that none of the 4 new teams has had entirely smooth sailing.
Virgin has turned up at the second test but between the weather, parts
shortages, and front wing failures hasn’t gotten in a lot of miles.
Lotus has been spotted doing a shakedown run at Silverstone but won’t
begin testing until next week.  None of this suggests that either team
won’t turn up at the first event, although if they’re bog slow it won’t
    be a surprise.

US F1 has been quiet all along and progress is hard to judge.
Apparently their FIA crash test is next week, which leaves no latitude
for failure and precious little time even if they pass.

The Campos situation seems to be the most dire – funding talks with Tony
Teixeira indicate how desperate they are.  Reports today that they were
being taken over by investor Jose Ramon Carabante have been denied by
the others allegedly involved (Colin Kolles and Volkswagen).  On the
other hand the stories about unpaid bills to Dallara seem to be
well-founded, since Andrea Pontremoli admitted yesterday that they were
talking to other entrants.  (One would be Stefan GP, if reports that
they were trying to scupper Campos to open a grid slot are to be
believed, and the other would be US F1 – in case their own chassis isn’t
    ready in time.)

A website is a lot cheaper and easier to launch than an F1 team,
particularly when one doesn’t have an entry for the latter.  They’re
acting awfully confident for some reason – but it isn’t necessarily a
    *good* reason.

They’ve been doing a bit more than that haven’t they.

Campos on the other hand have a website with a picture of a 2006 Honda
on the front. (Am I the only one whoo inds that strange?)

As things stand I expect to see StephanGP testing a car before Campos.

Yes, I believe they have – but the URL was what you offered in response
to Marcus’ question, so I only commented on the [lack of] significance
    of the website.

    > As things stand I expect to see StephanGP testing a car before Campos.

That wouldn’t surprise me.  They’ve announced plans to test at Portimao
at the end of February, and that would probably beat Campos.

For that matter I wouldn’t be all that surprised if they *raced* in F1
before Campos.  Just not in 2010.

Yet you refer to content from that very page below as if it were
    significant.

I’m sure you realise your error.

My source for the Stefan GP plans was
    http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=356287&FS=F1, among others.

And I’m not interested in playing word games around the meaning of
"significant" in different contexts.  Let’s let events play out.

Nor does anyone else here have any interest in such childish behavior in a
    moderated group I’ll wager.

Follow the link, that is what it was intended for, and read. You will
    realise your error.

The link takes you to news of StephanGPs intent to test, their car line
up and their support. A apt response to Marcus’s question.

Your ill chosen comment has no place in this group. You should keep
your ill found personal grievances to the unmoderated group.

The Campos launch is (or was) scheduled for tomorrow (the 17th; for some
reason Marcus’s post didn’t turn up on my server until today). So we’ll
see soon enough, I suppose. If it happens, we might get some real
information instead of rumour, and if it doesn’t that’s information in
    itself.
